Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe has claimed he was not informed that Kylian Mbappe had replaced him as the club’s vice-captain.
Mbappe scored his fifth goal as PSG beat his sixth-division side Pays de Cassel 7-0 in Monday’s Coupe de France.
After the game, PSG manager Christophe Galtier told reporters that Mbappe was now vice-captain.
Kimpembe, who has not played since November with a heel injury, has previously represented Marquinhos.
Rumors on Tuesday said Kimpembe had agreed to step down from the position so that Mbappe could take on a managerial role.
However, he claims such reports are inaccurate, instead accusing PSG of not informing him at all.
“In the last few hours, I’ve been able to hear and read a lot about myself,” he wrote on his official social media accounts.
“Therefore, I would like to clarify so as not to spread further misinformation in this regard.
“I was not informed of this decision. It is completely wrong … but I will always respect the club’s decision.”
